OK. The absolute minimum for born-in-the-wild brook trout and brown trout in southern New England is an old pattern, the Pickett Pin in size #12, 3X long. It can be fished wet or dry, up down or across as the situation suggests. Feeling undergunned? Waxing expansive? Add a parachute Adams, say size #14 and maybe a #16 elk or deer hair caddis. What to do encountering a Hexagenia limbata hatch? The P. Pin will work as an emerger or cripple. Learning what one does not need and can do without is important in life. So is having fun!
