Fished Melville (upper) yesterday AM in my canoe. Caught a couple dozen nice rainbows... the biggest about 19 inches. Caught 3 on a cone headed Balck Wooly bugger fished deep and slow along the over hanging trees on the north end. I could see the trout swimming all around me and could not interest them with anything until I saw a small nymph rise and emerge next to the canoe. From the time it got to the surface and flew away was only about 10-15 seconds. I was watching these and had no idea what they were. I will find out.. Anyway the nymp was 3/8 to a 1/2 inch long very skinny. I had a couple nyphs I had tied that fit the bill. I used the lightest hooked ones I had and put a tiny corkie about 2 feet above the nymph. I unlocked the code and caught fish as long as I wanted to fish. Although I red reports that RI stocked 70-80 % brown trout this year... This pond only showed me Rainbows. The Blackstone river on the other hand is full of footballs... with little blue hallowed spots!
